But what about me, damn it? I'm MJ too! Have been for years since my American best friend dubbed me thus after getting tired of explaining my Dutch name to his compatriots and other anglophones.

The death of that other MJ was used as a rather cruel trick by another one of my friends on his husband. He e-mailed him at work, with the subject "MJ is dead". (Their relationship is going through a very rough patch, as you can probably tell.)

This is a fun idea.

Now see, I have mixed emotions about the MJ mania.
On the one hand, he was very influential to music and a 'real' artist guess, and he did die 'too soon,' as they say. So I see why it's getting a lot of attention.
On the other hand, great people die every day. They might not be influential to music or have sold millions of CDs, but they are still people who will be missed by family and friends.

So, it is kind of strange that celebrity deaths are so prominent in the media. But since MJ is pretty legendary, I'm pretty much at the point where I'm thinking, "Oh well. I don't have to watch all the MJ stuff so let the fans do what they want." Unless this lasts for like a month or something...
